FAQs
Epilepsy Canada is a registered charity dedicated to advancing treatment and finding cures for epilepsy. By funding research and driving awareness, we positively impact the lives of those affected by epilepsy. For 60 years we have funded valuable research projects across Canada. Our focus is research and awareness.
For support
Separate from Epilepsy Canada, there are regional epilepsy associations that provide education and support services (like employment services, counselling, support groups, etc.) to those living with or affected by epilepsy. If you have questions of that nature, please contact an epilepsy association in your area.
For medical advice
We do not have health care practitioners on staff. Please contact a health care practitioner for medical information or advice. We do not have lists of doctors or neurologists. Your local epilepsy association might have resources or knowledge to assist you.
For medical devices/equipment
We do not have information about seizure alarms, watches, mattress pad alarms, anti-suffocation pillows, helmets, wearable bands, etc. Your local epilepsy association might have resources or knowledge to assist you.
For dog guides
Please contact the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides: https://www.dogguides.com/
For VIA Rail cards
Epilepsy Canada and some of the local epilepsy associations provide a VIA Rail card to persons with epilepsy. The card provides free round-trip passage to an adult 18 years and over who is escorting someone with epilepsy. To obtain a card, please email us and include proof of epilepsy, and the name and address of the person the card is for.
For financial support/assistance
While we fund epilepsy research in Canada, we regret we do not provide funding to individuals living with or affected by epilepsy who may be experiencing financial challenges. You may want to look into financial assistance from federal or provincial Governments.
