Your Challenge. Our Hope.

Epilepsy affects more than 360,000 Canadians — that's 1 in every 100 people. And while only they know what it truly means to live with seizures, many more walk alongside them: families, friends, classmates, coworkers, and caregivers.

The 1IN100 Challenge invites people across the country to move 100km throughout October, in whatever way works for them. Together, we’re raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and taking steps toward a better future for everyone impacted by epilepsy.

Here is the section on how to get started/register.

How to Get Started 1. Register: Join solo or as a team 2. Fundraise: Set a goal (we suggest $150!) 3. Move: Complete 100km by October 31 Track your progress and share updates to inspire others. We’ve got email templates, social media tools, and more to help you make a big impact.

Get your office moving with purpose! Encourage friendly competition, promote team wellness, and engage in meaningful action. Form a team, split the distance, or each aim for 100km. Epilepsy Canada provides branded resources, recognition opportunities, and fundraising tools to help your team succeed.

Schools

The 1IN100 is a fun and flexible way for schools to get involved. Gym classes, clubs, or whole-school initiatives can turn movement into meaningful impact. We provide age-appropriate materials and activities to help students learn about epilepsy while making a difference.

How it all began

In 2021 Loryanne Bessette, a 23-year-old university student living with intractable epilepsy set out on an incredible feat, to run 100km in 24 hours! Loryanne wanted both to RAISE MONEY and AWARENESS. At the height of COVID, Loryanne encouraged others to join her on her epic adventure. What started as a small local fundraiser turned into a grassroots virtual run, with people participating and running their distances ACROSS THE COUNTRY

From that event, the 1IN100 EVENT WAS BORN!

Now in it’s fifth year, Epilepsy Canada hosts the 1IN100 virtually across the country in hopes of raising money to FUND RESEARCH and FUEL HOPE.

Epilepsy Canada is a  charity dedicated to funding epilepsy research — We believe that funding research fuels hope.

We believe that educating our communities about epilepsy not only as a medical condition, but about the emotional, mental, social and economic effects that come along with it can bring new understanding and improve the lives of patients and caregivers alike.

We believe that more people talking about epilepsy, with more voices lifted together can create greater change. And that greater public knowledge and understanding about epilepsy will lead to more research dollars aimed at finding a cure.
