I promised Garrett when he was first diagnosed with Epilepsy that I would beat this with him, that I would never give up, and that I would do everything in my power to stop his seizures. This fun walk/run is something we want to do to help raise money for Epilepsy Canada so they can continue their important research for a cure for Epilepsy but also to spread awareness and understanding about Epilepsy.
“Our family didn't know anything about Epilepsy before April 2016 when our then 3-year old, Garrett began to have sudden and catastrophic seizures out of the blue one day. Following his diagnosis we were terrified but confident that we would find the right treatment and he would be ok - we didn't realise that some kids never get their seizures under control. And we certainly didn't anticipate that Garrett would fall into that category.
Garrett is 9 now and for the last six years we have tried everything in our power to understand Garrett's Epilepsy and to get it under control, but he continues to experience daily relentless seizures. We have exhausted medication options and he even has a VNS device that has given us some wonderful improvement - but it's not a cure.
We realise now that the next important step to take in this journey is to help fund important research. Because kids like Garrett and people living with Epilepsy deserve a cure, but a cure can't come without research, and research takes money.”
