Garrett’s Story

Garrett is 8, almost 9 and when he was just 3 years old he had his first seizure while we were traveling. It was an extremely traumatizing event that we soon discovered was just the beginning. He quickly began having multiple daily seizures and multiple types of seizures and the first several medications we tried only seemed to make everything worse.

Over the first year after his diagnosis he underwent a lot of investigation including MRIs, EEGs, lumbar punctures, genetic testing and visits to 3 different children's hospitals in search of answers.

We have never found an explanation for Garrett's progressive and debilitating Epilepsy but he has never let it keep him down for long. Life has been anything but ordinary for this little boy but he keeps on getting back up and facing each day with grit and determination.

Garrett is the coolest kid I know, he loves to build Lego, play Nintendo, making people laugh, and riding his bike. His best friend is his seizure response dog, Freedom - a while Goldendoodle that we added to our family last year. He has had such a positive impact in Garrett's life, we cannot imagine life without him.
