Shaan’s Mundan CeremonyHindu Prarthana Samaj - 62 Fern Ave, Toronto, ON M6R 1K1.

Event Details
In Hindu tradition, the hair from birth is associated with undesirable traits from past lives. Thus at the time of the mundan, the child is freshly shaven to signify freedom from the past and moving into the future. It is also said that the shaving of the hair stimulates proper growth of the brain and nerves, and that the sikha, a tuft at the crown of the head, protects the memory. Collectively these are known as saṃskāras, meaning rites of purification, and are believed to make the body pure and fit for worship. A boy's first haircut, known as choula, is one such samskara and is considered an event of great auspiciousness. Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_haircut |
Shaan's Story
Shaan’s was born April 19, 2017, the same day as his parent’s 5-year wedding anniversary. Both parents strongly believe that Shaan was a gift from God.
Shaan is 9-months old and is growing well, but is currently battling a rare epilepsy condition, where he has multiple seizures a day. That does not stop him from having a great time with his parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts. Shaan enjoys his pacifier, he has many nicknames for it. He also doesn’t like being left out of conversations, not talking to him directly will result in a cry for attention…beware. On this day, we are celebrating Shaan’s Mundan (his first hair cut) and we have many loved ones and well wishers joining us in Toronto. Shaan’s parents have made a contribution on behalf of all his well wishers. The fight against epilepsy continues and Shaan’s family hopes to bring awareness to the cause. Please donate online... A special thanks to all Shaan’s well wishers who are joining us today. |
